9/11 memorial
For 12 hours Wednesday, approximately 100 Team Tinker Airmen and civilians volunteered to stand 30-minute vigils at the flag pole located at the Wright Flyer Memorial Park on base to recognize America?s resolve to remain vigilant against the tyranny of terrorism and remember those who died in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The unprovoked attack killed more people than the deadly assault on Pearl Harbor that brought forth the fury of America?s civilian and military might. Base leaders who took the first shift at 7:46 a.m. Wednesday are, from left, Chief Master Sgt. Jackie Green Jr., 966th Airborne Air Control Squadron; Chief Master Sgt. Shirley Jones, 72nd Mission Support Group; Col. Jay Bickley, 552nd Air Control Wing commander; and Col. Stephen Wood, 72nd Air Base Wing vice commander. See related story page 4.
