Even though many of our hometown movie stars were deployed during the opening day of "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," they celebrated the movie release by giving back to the local community and got a sneak preview in the process.

The 964th Airborne Air Control Squadron, who participated in the filming of the second Transformers film, deployed members to Southwest Asia and Curacao from late April through September 2009. Yet even though they were far from home, the Airmen deployed to Curacao had the opportunity to celebrate with the local community.

They were asked, along with the local coast guard, to help with a special sneak preview event June 23 since several of the Airmen had actually been on set for the filming of the movie and the E-3 and crew played a supporting role, said Senior Airman Joseph Dunk, airborne surveillance technician, 964 AACS.

The event included a sneak preview of "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" (released to the general public a day later) and an unveiling of the new 2010 Chevy Camaro--the first one on the island.

The Airmen also provided camouflage face painting for the children who attended. "The best part was seeing all of the smiling faces of the children as we painted their faces in military camo," said Airman Dunk, "also, seeing my squadron in the credits of the movie itself... simply awesome!"
