Airmen help create community garden Published March 9, 2009 By 1Lt Kinder Blacke 552d Air Control Wing Public Affairs MOORE, Okla. -- Volunteers from the 552nd Air Control Wing spent their day off March 7 helping build a fence and planting bed for the Moore Community Garden project at the Westmore Trails Park. Master Sgt. Bruce A. Faris, superintendent of training, 964th Airborne Air Control Squadron, was happy to help create the eight vegetable garden plots, which will be adopted by non-profit groups from April through October. "I am just happy to have the opportunity to give back to the community," Sergeant Faris said. There will be free workshops and programs on Saturdays and after school for children and interested adults on subjects including organic gardening, nutrition and cooking ideas, composting, and butterfly gardening, said Ms. Amy Treadwell, project coordinator. Produce from the gardens will be donated to the local food bank and to low income and shut-in senior citizens through an "Adopt a Grandparent" program. Kids will deliver vegetables on a weekly basis from June through September, Ms. Treadwell said. If you would like more information, please contact Ms. Amy Treadwell, abtreadwell@gmail.com.
