Lieutenant Col. Greg Kent accepted command of the 966th Airborne Air Control Squadron from Lieutenant Col. Ronald Henry in an official ceremony May 7.

Col. George Carpenter, commander, 552nd Operations Group, presided over the ceremony and applauded Colonel Henry, "Squeak," for his brilliant work as the squadron commander.

"It's been a fast but very fun two years," said Colonel Henry, who made huge improvements to the squadron, graduating 1,300 students and alleviating the backlog of Airmen waiting to be trained.

Colonel Henry expressed his gratitude for the chance to command the "best squadron in the United States Air Force," and for the immeasurable sacrifices his family made to support him while doing so.

"I am honored to have been part of such a great organization," Colonel Henry said. He is now heading to the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Washington, D.C.

Taking his place is Colonel Kent, who, according to Colonel Carpenter, is a "recognized leader" in the wing and will bring a wealth of experience to the 966 AACS. "He is capable of taking this already excellent squadron and bringing them to the next level," Colonel Carpenter said.

Colonel Kent is excited to take on "the best job in the Air Force." He was a member of the 966 AACS ten years ago and is honored to join the Eagles once again.

After receiving the guidon from Colonel Henry, Colonel Kent gave thanks to God, his family, and the many friends who were all present at the change of command ceremony to support him.

He presented flowers to his wife, Amy, the "rock of the family," and shared how much he appreciated that she and his four children wait for him every night to sit down to dinner as a family.

Now, as the commander of the 966 AACS, Colonel Kent will embrace an even bigger family of Airmen, and is determined to guide them every day to ensure our Nation's freedom.
