Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at Tinker

Staff Sgt. Cheila with the 960th Airborne Air Control Squadron gets ready to serve a Puerto Rican dish to Senior Airman Daniel with the 966th AACS on Sept. 21. Dozens of Airmen, family members and guests indulged in flavors from various Hispanic nations at the ¡Sabor Hispano! food tasting and salsa dip contest at the Tinker Chapel. The event was part of the ongoing 2017 Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. Col. Kenyon Bell, 72nd Air Base Wing commander, attended and said the Air Force’s various heritage observance months help to recognize the strength that comes from bringing together ideas and creativity from people of all backgrounds. The event took place as Hurricane Maria was bearing down on Puerto Rico. “This particular Hispanic Heritage Month means a little something extra right now because of the tragedies from natural disasters that have taken place both in Mexico and Puerto Rico, so it’s a good time for the community to come together,” he said.
